Community Cooking

Healthy food, nutrition and cooking do not end with the school day. Parents are encouraged to participate in workshops that take place in our teaching kitchen. These workshops demonstrate and discuss healthy eating, seasonal ingredients, sustainability, and the effects of food on behavior and learning. These gathering encourage open forum discussions relating to children and food.
Coming this Fall: Parent Workshop
Food: Mood, Behavior and Learning. They are experiential workshops using food to understand first hand how various foods and beverages change how we feel, think, and behave. I have done them for nurses, counselors, PE, classroom teachers, and child study team. Included are understanding how whole foods versus processed foods affect blood sugar and mood chemistry, which foods are actually neuro-toxic, which foods function more like drugs than foods, and the household and institutional changes that need to be made to support better brain function, which are the same changes that need to happen to deal with the obesity and diabetes epidemics.
