Caring about the flora and fauna was the motivation behind our EcoSPACES Field Guide to our Rooftop Learning Center. Our field guide features a variety of species from flowers to plants and invertebrates to vertebrates, which the students have compiled, classified and illustrated for the community to use. This teaches the students the fine tuned skills of patience, looking scientifically at plants and animals, as well as exploring science in action when covering such topics as metamorphosis. The Thornless cockspur blossoms are a perfect visual for studying pollinating insects, and the butterfly garden enables us to compare male and female migrating monarchs.
